Conference Overview
Join other Farm Credit leaders at this year’s National Directors Conference: A Leadership Summit on
Change and Emerging Risks, September 13-17, 2008 at The Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee.
As in recent years, this year’s conference will be used as a strategic planning forum for Farm Credit System issues. As we move beyond the success achieved through the HORIZONS project, there are new challenges facing the System and our customers. Dramatically spiking commodity prices bring reward to some segments of agriculture and challenges to others. Increased operating expenses are impacting all market segments. The upheaval in the Nation’s credit and financial markets creates funding risk. Increasing challenges and new opportunities arise from implementing a successful diversity program.
All of these issues are priority matters that demand attention at this year’s National Directors Conference (NDC).
With additional risk and stress facing customers and the System, now is the time when we also face new risks for a very important asset of the System, our reputation. Yet reputation risk and how to manage it, is one of the least understood challenges we face. This was the primary topic at a joint strategic planning meeting for the Presidents Planning Committee (PPC) and the Farm Credit Council Board this past March. The PPC’s Reputation Risk Management Committee is currently working with the Reputation Institute to do the necessary research and develop recommendations to address reputation risk in the Farm Credit System. This will be an important focus at the NDC this year, as the results of the research will be shared and the recommendations for the System as a whole and each institution will be discussed.
We hope you will join your fellow directors and CEOs from Banks and Associations across the country as we exchange ideas and viewpoints on these important issues.
The estimated cost for this year’s conference is $1,260 per attendee. The registration fee covers all meals, business meetings and the agricultural tour. Spouse/guest registration and tours will be priced separately on a per-attendee, per spouse/guest and per-tour basis. Each Bank will need to determine how the cost of their Association and Bank representative’s fees, travel and per diem expenses will be covered. The Banks will be billed after the conference for the conference costs associated with its attendees and spouses/guests.
This year, Farm Credit System is “going green” and moving to an electronic registration format. All of the information you need regarding the meeting, conference registration and hotel reservations can be found on this web site or download the printable Conference Brochure. The deadline to register and reserve your lodging is August 1, 2008.
