AgriBank District Farm Credit Council honors Minnesota congressman during Capitol Hill visit

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 24, 2019 – The AgriBank District Farm Credit Council (ADFCC) presented its 2019 Friend of Farm Credit Award to U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson of Minnesota.

U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson of Minnesota (center with award) receives the 2019 Friend of Farm Credit Award from representatives of the AgriBank District Farm Credit Council.

Peterson, chair of the House Agriculture Committee, received the award for his important work on behalf of rural communities, agriculture and the Farm Credit System. ADFCC members are in Washington to meet with members of Congress about issues important to farmers and ranchers in AgriBank’s Midwestern District.

“Congressman Peterson’s leadership during the lengthy Farm Bill process was the determining factor in producing legislation that provides not only a safety net for producers but also resources for critical nutrition programs,” said Mark Ellison, of Elbow Lake, Minn., a farmer, board member of AgCountry Farm Credit Services, and ADFCC member. “We celebrate his achievements on behalf of American agriculture and consumers.”

“Farming has always been a capital-intensive industry with a significant amount of risk that comes along with it,” Peterson said. “The Farm Credit System has for many years been a trusted partner, most importantly in tough economic times like these, investing in farmers and ranchers so they can continue to produce for their communities and the world. I’m honored to receive this award today, and look forward to working with Farm Credit for years to come.”

Farm Credit supports rural communities and agriculture with reliable, consistent credit and financial services, today and tomorrow. Farm Credit has been fulfilling its mission of helping rural America grow and thrive for more than a century by providing farmers with the capital they need to make their businesses successful and by financing vital infrastructure and communication services.
